2.1 - Structure of Matter

Preview:

- Instructions: Complete the atomic structure review by clicking the link below.

- It is HIGHLY recommended that you record (in your notes!) any information that you think would be useful for your own review.

- Once you have completed most of the tutorial and you're now at the "let's see what you've learned" (22/26), add the correct information to your UNIT GUIDE (preview section).

- Complete the tutorial and make sure you understand all the ATOMIC BASICS you have just practiced with.

Lesson:

Video Lesson- "The Biological All-Star Elements" Started in class on (9/3) - Complete before class on 9/4 (Thurs)

2.1 Assignments

Day Starter for 9/3 - Please complete in unit guide (Lower Square of 2.1)

Homework for 9/3: Chemical Bonds (please use PowerPoint above in the lesson section or textbook pages 22-25)

In your notebook (or backside of "elemental all-stars" note template) please complete the following tasks:

1) Describe the 4 major chemical bond categories common in cells (non-polar covalent, polar covalent, ionic, and hydrogen). Your answer should always include a description of electron action.

2) Make sure to use the terms INTERMOLECULAR and INTRAMOLECULAR (it's important that you know the difference!)

3) Finally, diagram each! Show electron action or attractive forces.

Learning Targets:

1) I can recognize all the major components of an atom and explain their role in chemical reactions/atomic properties

2) I can determine when different types of bonding will occur based on the elements prese
