4.3 - Text Reading Focus Questions and Connections -

1) 7.1-7.5 Due 11/13

WHILE YOU READ FOCUS ON THE FOLLOWING:

a) Describe the differences between an autotroph and heterotroph.

b) Name 4 examples of photosynthetic organisms. 

c) What is chlorophyll? 

d) Draw a diagram of a chloroplast. Label the major parts and a brief description of each part next to the structure. 

(READ 7.3, but no need to take notes...) 

CONNECTION: How can you use the cellular respiration reaction to remember the reaction in photosynthesis (please record reaction as well as what is reduced and what is oxidized).

e) Briefly describe the the two major stages of photosynthesis (the light reactions and the Calvin cycle).

c) What is a photosystem? 

d) Record a list (of steps 1-6), of the journey of electrons through a plants' photosystems. Ultimately, what is the energy from these electrons used to power? 

e) What are the similarities and differences between chemiosmosis in photosynthesis vs. cellular respiration?
